The c.v. will be found to be very bolt tolerant, a very strong header, of good texture, uniform in type and maturity, with very solid firm heads and good weight. The strong heading characteristic demands full attention to cultural practices for continued growth and development throughout the growing cycle.

A dark dull green Vanguard type crisphead lettuce adapted for mid-winter and early spring production in the Desert Southwest and San Joaquin Valley. Color extends very close to the core, the butt is relatively flat and the core small by comparison to other varieties designed to offer adequate size and weight when grown during that same time period. The heads offer very desirable conformity with broad leaves which overlap well and spiral slightly to offer excellent head cover and protection from the elements. Under average cultural conditions the variety will make adequate size under extremely cold growing conditions when others such as Winterset may fail to do so.

A Calmar selection for slightly smaller size and better uniformity. Miramar™ is used in the late spring and summer in coastal areas of California. The heads are medium to large, round in shape with a large core. The color is a dark glossy green.

A new improved strain of an old standard variety designed for mid-winter harvest in the Desert Southwest and early Spring harvest in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Large, uniform smooth leaved heads are well covered to resist frost and scald. The variety is an excellent shipper with smooth butts and mid-ribs and a well rounded head. Texture is excellent and internal defects shall be found to be rare. Color is dark dull green extending well into the head.

Rico™ is a glossy dark green variety of medium large size adapted for the late Merit harvest period. It offers good bolt tolerance, superior texture and a much smoother leaf structure relative to Merit. Conformity is upright with relatively smooth ribs and butt and the head well protected by the ample spiral of large wrapper leaves.

Titan™ offers growers a Salinas type lettuce with better size potential for early spring production in the coastal districts when the variety Salinas may be small in size. The color is dark dull green with a firm head at maturity. Core diameter is medium to large with a low seed stalk except in abnormally hot weather. The butt is flat with smooth ribs and the variety offers some Tipburn resistance in a very uniform line.
